Learning About Justine: The Ice Storm

So, I normally do posts in advance ... but this week, (well, that last 24 hours AND the next 24 hours), my little town was/will be getting hit with ice. Freezing rain. Oh, what fun.

I ventured out, almost crashed on my butt (numerous times!) and took some photos of round one. Round two is supposed to start this evening (by the time you read this on Wednesday, the second round will have passed ... yay for more ice).

I didn't go work (obviously). I care too much about my safety. Seriously. Ice is freakin' dangerous! But I looked on the bright side ... as I am writing this, 11 am on Tuesday, we still have power. That might not be the case tomorrow at the same time.

Without further ado, here are my photos: (oh, and I wished the sun had been shining so you could how much ice there was).

*FYI, I couldn't even get my car door open.

Oh, and do you know how hard it is for dogs to potty when they slip around ... in the GRASS? Crazy! But hey, it's not an Indiana winter unless we get a good ice storm!

For those who live in the states who were also in the path of storm, I hope you are all safe and warm.

I love ice photos. They always have that strange, alien-landscape quality to them. (though it would be nice if real ice wasn't required to get said photos)

My poor puppies don't know what's going on. Their yard is frozen solid and crunchy, and that's not supposed to happen in Texas. They keep looking at me with pathetic eyes like they're saying "Fix it!"

These are AWESOME!! Maybe since I live on an island, ice storms fascinate me :D But seriously, those pics are gorgeous, even though it must suck to not be able to open your car door!

Oh, and that whole dog slipping thing... *shakes head at ice*

Ah, the joys of winter! We've been lucky over here the past couple of days, it's been too warm to ice. We're just stuck with really cold rain. Though it is expected to freeze over tonight.

Since I saw on Twitter this morning that your power is out now...I hope you get it back soon!! Snow days with no power are soooo not fun.

Love the pictures. I had some great ones a few years ago of a tulip encased in ice. Unfortunately I didn't make a back up and it got lost when a virus hit the computer. :(

Fingers crossed everything is okay for you. I remember the big ice storm that hit Montreal a few years ago. It was a natural disaster and a number of people died because of it.

Oops! that was supposed to read 'national disaster' not 'natural disaster'. ;)

man, i hate ice storms. I like it when we can get through the winter without one.

gorgeous pics! we had a lot of ice too! not quite that bad, though. but i tell you, walking to work (the hospital doesn't close due to inclement weather) i almost fell so many times, and actually only fell once! for a clutz like me that was pretty terrific!
i hope your power comes back on real soon!

Lovely photos! Unfortunately they are due to an ice-storm. Prayers that all will be spared of the dangers that come with ice.

I'm in the same boat here in OH. We are under Level 3 snow/ice emergency and I didn't have internet until about noon.

You can keep your ice. I am perfectly happy with my 20" of snow and 6' snow drifts :-)

wow those are really cool pictures. im just real glad your ok. we got that stuff here a while back and that ice is sooo bad. mostly the best thing is stay in your house all wrapped up in a warm blanke and get yourself a big cup of hot chocolate and just look out the window.
...hugs from lenny

Ice is the worst. I had fun shoveling our meager six inches, but boy, was it heavy. Usually our snow is light and fluffy.

Those pictures are awesome! I love it but I don't love ice storms. Boo! Fortunately we missed this last storm and by missed, I mean, we only got the 20-30 below windchill from the storm blowing past. Sigh. It's either snowing or butt-ass cold!

Beautiful pictures, but ice scares me to death. Hope everything ended up okay.
